St Alphonsus Maria de Liguori was an Italian Catholic bishop, spiritual writer, scholastic philosopher, theologian, and the founder of the Redemptorists. He was born to a noble family in 1696, Alphonsus began to practice law, but he turned to priesthood when he lost his first case. He would preach to parishes and wrote several works, including his life.
